The Center for Sports Communication and Social Impact announced that starting this academic year, Lindsey Masciangelo will be taking on her new position as assistant director.
Masciangelo began working at Rowan University in January 2025 and has been an assistant teaching professor for nine months, guiding students through public relations and advertising in the world of sports.
“The thing that I really love to do the most is help mentor and help people find opportunities and what they’re really good at,” Masciangelo said.
Prior to teaching at Rowan, she worked with the Philadelphia Flyers, building a marketing department where she managed marketing, publicity, public relations, and community relations. She was then the Vice President of Marketing for the Philadelphia Wings, Philadelphia’s professional lacrosse team.
“I’m just excited to work with the students here. Sports have been really good to me. I think it’s a great career for both men and women. I think there’s a lot of different areas that people have to find out and that’s what can be challenging in this industry,” Masciangelo said. “It’s figuring out what you really want to do and where your skill set matches. So, I’m excited to be a part of that experience for students.”
Working alongside Masciangelo is Neil Hartman, the senior director of the Center for Sports Communication & Social Impact. Up until Masciangelo was promoted, he was meeting with and mentoring students through the center himself, however, as the program continues to grow to over 450 students, he needed someone experienced and well versed in the field to help him.
“I’m just thrilled to have her[Lindsey]. She’s going to be a great addition to the center.” Hartman said. “She’s going to have time now allocated to working in the center mentoring and meeting with students and helping as we continue to grow the program and the need for someone with her expertise was also necessary.”
Masciangelo is bringing a new light in the Center for Sports Communication & Social Impact. She also hopes to serve as a guide for young women who want to pursue a career in sports.
“I’ve been in a lot of situations where I’ve been the only woman at the table and I understand what that can feel like and I also understand the importance of being able to lean into that and using it as your superpower at times,” Masciangelo said. “I would love to be able to translate that for female students and help them find their way in the industry.” said Masciangelo when asked if she feels she can help young women navigate a typically male dominated industry.”
