Rowan men’s swimming will look for greater successes this upcoming season after a season of highs and lows last winter. The team is coached by Brad Bowser, who is entering his twelfth year as head coach of the program. The team endured setbacks in dual meets, only posting a 2-5 record, albeit against tough competition with ranked opponents such as Johns Hopkins and New York University (NYU). However, they found hard-earned success when it mattered most, the Division III National Championships.
After a fourth-place finish as a team during the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships, the team racked up several All-American honors at Nationals, with the record-breaking quartet of Jack Watson, Alex Volin, Tobias Cahnbley, and Braden Sheehan capturing second-team All-American honors in the 800-free relay. Watson also earned individual honors, finishing as a first-team All-American honors in the 100 fly, and Volin received second-team honors in the 200 fly.
However, Watson, Volin, and Cahnbley have all left the program this upcoming year as a result of graduation, with Sheehan the only returner from their run at Nationals. It will be a younger group led by Sheehan to help fill the shoes left behind by the trio to find both individual and team success this season.
Top returners this season will include seniors Kristian Werner and Brandon McMahon, sophomores Josh Oliveira and Julian Huynh, and junior Gavin Danze. It’s a returning class with a ton of potential to step up and lead the Profs to National success once more.
The team will be tested once again in all of their dual meets, with the highlight of the dual season being a clash against the Division I Villanova University Wildcats in the final meet of the season. Their season officially kicks off this Saturday, Oct. 11, with a dual meet against the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks. The team defeated Stevens in their season-opener last season, 167-95.
