The Philadelphia Eagles are back in a HUGE way. The Eagles had a statement win against the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte on Thursday night, proving to the rest of the league that they are the real deal. This victory means a lot not just at this point in the season, but looking forward to the playoffs as well. With a win over Carolina, this means that the Eagles now have an edge with a home-field advantage opportunity if they make it to the playoffs.
Its almost as if the football gods want the Eagles to succeed this season. The Green Bay Packers are arguably the biggest competition for the Eagles in the NFC, and Aaron Rodgers just suffered a season ending injury. The NFC East was supposed to be one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL this year. However, after a 1-5 start for the Giants and the Cowboys’ loss of Ezekiel Elliot due to suspension (with the combination of their lackluster start), the Eagles became instant favorites to win the division.
Taking a look over at the AFC, the Patriots look like a beatable team this year. Their defense ranks one of the worst in the NFL and Tom Brady is making more mistakes on offense than ever before. Combine those two factors against the Eagles and its almost a sure Philadelphia victory. I hate to be talking Super Bowl this early in the season, but there is no other team that I would like to face more than the New England Patriots. It would be so sweet to get revenge from Super Bowl XXXIX.
We all know that one injury can make all the difference going forward. The Eagles loss of Darren Sproles should have been a big game changer, however Kenjon Barner was able to replace him and even win Special Teams Player of the Week in his return. As long as the Eagles can stay healthy at key positions, there is no stopping this special team led by Carson Wentz. Philadelphia’s 5-1 start is an exciting start to what, I believe, will be a very exciting year.
