The Rowan DII Ice Hockey team had an impressive weekend, with some milestones achieved along the way.
Head Coach John Caulfield and Assistant Coach Mike Husek achieved their 200th career wins with Friday’s road victory over Army.
In that game, the Profs’ offense unloaded for eight goals, led by a hat trick from Sam Meyer. Aaron Segnello, Tucker Simmons, Nick Ramos, Bobby Penrod and Kyle McGovern tallied the other five goals for Rowan.
In net, goalie Justin Natiello stopped all 30 shots that he faced to secure his third shutout of the season and gave the Profs the 8-0 victory.
Along with Caulfield and Husek’s 200th win, the Profs clinched a spot in the MACH North playoffs.
Caulfield was more than humble about the achievement following the game.
“I’ve been around a long time,” Caulfield said. “It’s a testament to the quality of players who’ve played at Rowan. I’ve been fortunate to be a part of such an excellent program.”
The divisional win over Army was just what the Profs needed, considering they’ve been treading water since the spring semester began, holding onto their place in the top-10 of the regional rankings.
The road trip led them to the Fred Rust Arena to take on the University of Delaware for a big matchup.
The Profs and Blue Hens have proven to be familiar foes over the past month and a half, with Delaware winning 2-1 at Hollydell on Dec. 9, and Rowan then beating them in the Pond Hockey Classic on Dec. 29.
The brown and gold received goals from Trevor Rucci in the first period and Sam Meyer in the second to take a 2-0 lead into the third.
In the final stanza, the Blue Hens scored two goals in just 13 seconds to tie the game up.
With 33 seconds left on the clock, Meyer scored the game winning goal, with assists by Segnello and Simmons to put the Profs back on the bus to Glassboro with a 3-2 victory and a huge two points.
Natiello stopped 30 shots for the second straight game.
Two of the final three regular season games for Rowan will be played this weekend. Rowan travels to William Paterson on Friday night. The Pioneers edged out the Profs 3-1 just a week ago. Rowan then returns home to Hollydell for an 8:15 p.m. faceoff with West Chester University.
