As many of you may know, the Eagles won the Super Bowl. As a city, Philly is bringing the Lombardi trophy home to the fans for the first time since John F. Kennedy was in office… Let that sink in.
For the Philadelphia sports fans, it meant way more than just a trophy being brought home.
Chris Devine wrote an article earlier this week recapping the victory of the Birds and what it meant to him.
“I never thought I would see it. I never thought I would say it. To say that Sunday, February 4, 2018 was the greatest night of my life is an understatement. For any Eagles fan who has bled green since day one, it was such an unforgettable moment,” Devine said.
I felt the same way, and if you dug around enough, you could find a video of me sobbing in my girlfriend’s arms and turning to hug my pop-pop.
It truly was an amazing night for Philly sports but it doesn’t stop there, we have much to look forward to in the coming years. I want to take a step back from the well deserved celebration and see what other Philly teams have in store.
The tough one, the Phillies.
Since the 2008 World Series Championship, they have been steadily climbing down the standings in the MLB.
This off-season, they went out and hired Gabe Kapler. Although he is young with very little experience, he shows promise with his age, wits and knowledge of the game after a 12-year career.
He also carries a team of young stars including stud Rhys Hoskins, who hit 18 home runs in just 50 games with the Phillies at the end of the season.
It’ll be rough for a little while but hold tight for the ride.
The 76ers? Joel Embiid has made his way into the lineup after an injury ridden beginning to his career. Also, let’s not forget, he’s going to be an all-star this year playing for 76ers.
This team is young and injury ridden from top to bottom, which is scary to watch them game in and game out as they step foot on the court. As of now, they hold the bottom seed in the playoffs and could show some surprise coming out after the all-star break and play with some fire under them.
And now for our Flyers… The past few years has been a fight for the playoffs, and to find their identity again.
This year, they are in a tight race for the wild card position with plenty of time left in the year. The only scary thing is the fact that many players who have left the team have now won a Stanley Cup, like Simon Gagne, Mike Richards and Jeff Carters.
But, we always have Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds to rely on.
Both teams and fans especially fight every year to bring home a championship. If one thing is true, we never give up faith.
Dilly Dilly, Philly!
