The Rowan University Women’s Alliance will host “The Other Side of Jean Edelman” on Wednesday September 15. It’ll be a virtual event on Webex to follow COVID-19 health and safety protocols.  

Learn more about Jean Edelman’s life and her book “The Other Side of Money.” Even though the book was published in 2012, it still resonates with people today. 

“Jean Edelman really teaches us that there is more to life than money. She offers really practical and helpful tips to balance our busy lives and focus on our own health,” said Deniz Dennery, program assistant at the Office of Career Advancement. 

The theme for this year’s events is “Re-Connect, Re-Focus, Re-Charge.” “The Other Side of Jean Edelman” will provide attendees a chance to ‘Re-Focus’ and learn how to apply themselves to their aspirations. 

“This will give everyone a chance to take a breath and enjoy the opportunity to connect with Jean and connect with her book, just because it really is filled with such practical advice about self care and looking at personal happiness first,” Dennery said. 

Women’s Alliance is hosting this event, but registration is open to anyone that has interest in attending. 

“I don’t want women to think it’s only for women or for men to think it’s a women’s event. It’s really our commitment as an organization to diversity, equity and inclusion. Regardless of gender identity, we’re always open with our programming,” Dennery said. 

The event is aimed to offer benefits to everyone that attends. The hope is that attendees can leave with bits of inspiration and encouragement to apply to the challenges they face in their day to day lives.

The event also gives attendees a chance to get to know Jean Edelman in a way that most haven’t gotten the chance to do before. 

“She and her husband both remain so connected with Rowan University. By inviting her to speak at this event, it’s truly a nice way to connect with her and give Rowan faculty, students, and community a chance to get to know her a little bit better and connect with the tips that she brings forward in this book,” Dennery said.

Following Edelman’s keynote speech, Professor of Communication Studies and Director of the Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication Julia Haynes, will interview Edelman featuring questions from the audience.
