Tuesday night, the Student University Programmers (SUP) hosted “The Shrekoning” and showed “Shrek 2” in the Student Center Ballroom at their weekly free movie night. Tuesday nights are movie nights at Rowan University.
Students were invited to attend this week’s “View n’ Chew,” which includes free food and a raffle, in addition to the screening of the movie.
This included popcorn, waffles and a make-your-own ice cream sundae bar. The raffle ticket gave students a chance to win Shrek-themed prizes at the end of the night.
Once attendees were settled in with their snacks, the lights dimmed and the DreamWorks introduction lit up the room. It was obvious that the movie, released in 2004, brought a feeling of childhood nostalgia for students. The audience sang along to the familiar songs and laughed at the funny moments.
Following the movie show, raffle winners were drawn to win one of several Shrek-themed prizes. There were plush dolls of Shrek and Donkey, a latex mask of Shrek’s face, a knit beanie with ogre ears attached and a Shrek coloring book.
“It was a lot of fun. I’m glad I went,” junior Brianna Smith said. “It’s nice that the school offers events like these to go to, especially with movie theaters being closed for so long.”
According to the SUP mission statement, their purpose is to “provide the students of Rowan University with an array of diverse, educational, and entertaining programs”.
If you missed out on “The Shrekoning,” the next SUP movie night is scheduled for October 5, where “A Quiet Place II” will be shown. It will take place at 9:15 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. Any student who wishes to attend will need to show their Rowan ID for entry.
