Rowan volleyball won their home match this Tuesday against the 6-9 Neumann Knights. They now have a 12-3 record and a six-game winning streak.
Seniors Natalie Ogden and Cassidy Abdalla were being honored by their teammates and coaching staff for Senior Night. Neumann was also wearing pink, to honor the Rowan Head Coach Deana Jespersen.
“I have breast cancer, so yeah that was kind of a big deal. Neumann’s where I coached prior to coming here,” Coach Jespersen said. “The assistant coach over there was my player. The head coach was my assistant coach. So, wearing pink was kind of a big deal tonight. I thought that was really cool.”
Rowan won the first set 25-16. They went on to win the second set 25-21 with the Knights remaining competitive throughout. Rowan, with a clear height advantage, had 10 kills by the end of the second set. Neumann also had 10.
Ogden, who had 14 kills and seven digs for the night, finished the second set for Rowan with a kill.
“It’s amazing. Every time I got a kill it just felt really good,” Ogden said. “Every night, I try to give it my all but [tonight] it was a little more special.”
After proving their skills, Rowan stuck to their game plan and continued using their height to their advantage in the third set. Rowan won the third set 25-17.
Cassidy Abdalla led the game with six blocks. Freshman teammate Isabell Kirchner contributed four blocks. In addition, freshman Brooke Adams finished the game with 27 assists.
Rowan will play the Penn State Berks Tri-Match this upcoming Saturday in Pennsylvania.
