It’s been a fun year for women’s basketball.
Most people don’t watch the sport, but a star named Caitlin Clark is not only taking over the women’s game but basketball in general. That’s how much of an impact she has, which is insane. It shows in the viewership too, as the NCAA Division I women’s basketball championship game drew a record-breaking 18.9 million viewers, compared to just 14.8 million for the men’s game.
Clark was a large part of this viewership increase, as she has been breaking records left and right this year. A few of these include breaking the all-time points record across both men’s and women’s college basketball, becoming the all-time leading scorer at Iowa, becoming the Big Ten’s all–time leader in assists, as well as Iowa’s all-time leader in assists, along with plenty of other things.
In addition to all of these, Clark also racked up plenty of accolades throughout the year. To start, she was named the preseason Big Ten Player of the Year, was named as a unanimous AP preseason All-American selection, and shared The Sporting News Athlete of the Year honors with Angel Reese of LSU, just to name a few.
These are just some of her records throughout her college career. We have not seen a college player at the women’s or men’s level do all of this historical record-breaking.
As someone who didn’t watch women’s basketball, Caitlin is the reason why I have been so invested, and it’s only going to grow from here. Although she didn’t win a ring, I believe she is the goat of women’s basketball. Her accomplishments speak for themselves.
Very few people watched women’s basketball until Caitlin Clark started playing, and started to inspire the younger generation to get involved. I don’t know if we will see another player like this, so it was truly amazing to watch her break records left and right.
Caitlin is now expected to go to the WNBA and be drafted as the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, which takes place on April 15. The one thing I am excited about is that just knowing her impact, the WNBA ratings will go up because she is that good.
I’m excited to see what Caitlin Clark’s future holds in the WNBA and I know many people will be watching her break records and win many games, just like she did at Iowa. Thank you, Caitlin, for impacting the game of women’s basketball.
