Whenever people go on road trips, it is a tradition for some to sing songs during the journey. Some popular songs to sing are the Disney Classics, from Disney films. On Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, Disney Karaoke Night came to Rowan University in the Student Center. Hosted by Rowan After Hours, students got to come and sing their favorite Disney songs from around the franchise.
Students either sang a solo or a duet. Everyone sang to the magic of Disney such as “You’ll Be In My Heart” by Phil Collins from Tarzan, and even some parodies such as Weird Al Yankovich’s “The Saga Begins,” referencing Star Wars The Phantom Menace,1999. Some students sang songs they enjoyed and others sang to their heart’s content to or in honor of someone they love.
Jake Sukoff, a junior Sports Communications Major at Rowan University attended the magical night’s festivities, reminiscing about the joy they bring to him and his friends.
“They make me laugh. They make me hang with my family more,” Sukoff said.
He sang “Unwritten,” by Natasha Bedingfield, giving the crowd something to get everyone hyped and excited, hoping they continue to sing and have fun.
As it comes to those who have stage fright Rowan After Hours offers a craft for the night. This event was for students to make and decorate their own pair of Mickey Mouse ears, just like what people wear in the Disney theme parks. Everyone used all sorts of art supplies to create and decorate their ears adding more magic to the night. Some made their ears in honor of their favorite Disney characters, their favorite Disney movies, or even their friends or family.
Later in the night, students like Lumiere the candlelight from Beauty and the Beast would say, “Be our guest” as the food bar opened up. Serving retro spaghetti and meatballs from the all-time classic Disney film, “Lady and the Tramp.”
As far as karaoke goes, Sukoff wasn’t sure about singing but offered advice to those who felt the same. “Just have fun. Sing some songs, meet some friends, and laugh your butts off,” said Sukoff.
Once he got on stage, he felt invigorated to continue his singing, even if it was with his friends or even on his next family road trip with his family.
With all the students singing their hearts out, and every note sung, students wished upon a star they had more time to spend with their friends hanging out or singing.
