Rowan men’s cross country displayed a strong showing at their second race of the season as they placed second at the Herb Lorenz Invitational at TCNJ. The Profs had 51 points while St. Joseph’s won the team title with 24 points.
Head coach Dustin Dimit was pleased with the team’s effort and impressed that they finished behind a Division I team in St. Joseph’s.
“We felt really great about how well everybody ran,” Dimit said. “The guys who ran really stepped up, you know, really ran aggressive really impressed you know to finish second overall behind a division one team was great.”
Juniors Cole Mylan and Sean Hice were the standouts for the Profs. Mylan finished in seventh place (19:24.1) and Hice finished ninth (19:40.5).
“I thought, Cole and Sean set themselves up well right from the beginning of being aggressive in the top group,” Dimit said. “And held onto that throughout the race and were real happy with theirs and a lot of the other guys. But those guys stuck, stuck out as people that, you know, really put themselves in position and really wanted to show them what they could do”.
Mylan, who is from Sicklerville, had a lot of motivation going into the race. One thing in particular was to see how far he’s come from all the training he put in over the summer.
“It helped me, it really was like eye-opening to see how far my training’s come,” Mylan said. “I just wanted to make varsity this year, so I’ve just been putting everything on the line for it. And just, you know, everything that we’ve done through the summer and just all the training in it, just really pushed me to get going.”
While Mylan was excited and pleased with his effort from the meet, he knows what improvements he needs to make for the rest of the season.
“I didn’t really have a kick towards the end, but I think if I just, you know, hit a few more drills and really just lock in and get everything fine-tuned by the end of the season, I should be pretty explosive by the end,” Mylan said.
On Saturday, Oct. 6, Rowan men’s cross country will be in Lehigh to run in the Paul Short Run.
