The student body passed three motions at the Student Government Association (SGA) meeting on Dec. 2.
A motion to de-charter three clubs passed. The clubs included the Music Therapy Club, French Club, and Gaming Club.
The decision came after a detailing of each club’s infractions. A point system is used to decide this, reasons for points include but aren’t limited to, missing senate meetings, failure to re-register, and not fulfilling service obligations.
The Commission of Community Standards unanimously voted for each club to be de-chartered prior to the senate meeting and was ultimately passed by the student body.
This means a complete withdrawal from SGA affiliation. These de-charted clubs will no longer receive funding and are no longer entitled to a meeting space.
Another resolution that was voted on sought to increase the wellness fee. The current wellness fee is $2.50 per credit.
However, under this resolution, the fee is projected to increase to $6.70 per credit by 2026.
Full-time students are charged no more than $30 while part-time students pay a fraction based on credit.
The student body voted to pass this resolution.
Full-time students will then be obligated to pay an $80 wellness fee if this resolution is passed by the Board of Trustees as well.
The third matter students voted on was a budget approval for The Navigators, a club centered around bible study, which requested and received $11,160. The club was already approved to receive $7500 prior to the senate meeting.
However, a motion to vote on the approval to allocate the maximum amount of funding was passed.
The Navigators requested this money for a trip to New York City, where they will provide food for the homeless.
The next SGA senate meeting will be held on Feb. 3 in the Eynon Ballroom of the Chamberlain Student Center.
