With the latter part of their season over, Rowan women’s swimming now set their eyes on the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Swimming & Diving Championships. The four-day meet will take place from Feb. 13-16 at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Virginia.
The Profs come into the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships with a 3-5 record. They also find themselves coming off a home tri-meet loss to No. 10 Swarthmore and NJAC opponent Kean at Tony Lisa Natatorium on Jan. 25.
Head coach Elise Fisher says her team still has a lot to give despite their up-and-down performance this season.
“The story of our season is that we certainly haven’t been at our best yet, but we’ve been really good and I think that we have a lot more to give,” Fisher said. “And I’m excited what some rest will do for these athletes to get up and get ready to go.”
The Profs finished fourth during the 2024 NJAC Championships and will look to improve upon their placement this time around. Elizabeth Jones says her team is feeling optimistic about their chances after seeing their growth from the beginning of the season to now.
“We put a lot of more focus into details and the finer things when we swim and we’ve also kind of had this story of continuing to push ourselves while supporting each other. It’s been great to see that reflected in every competition we’ve been to,” Jones said. “So personally, I feel a lot of confidence going into NJAC because I do know I have the support of my team and we have a lot of hard work to back it up.”
Jones is a senior this year alongside her teammate and sister Laura Jones. With their swimming careers slowly winding down, she reflects on what it has meant to go on this journey alongside her sister.
“I know Elizabeth and I have been swimming together for 14 years. We’ve been teammates for a long time, even before that and I’m definitely feeling bittersweet putting an entire athletic career behind me, but it’s also something that I can be proud of, and something that I can always look back on,” Jones said. “Letting that go is going to be very difficult but it’s been so fun, and I’m definitely looking forward to what comes next.”
Ella Pennington says her team is ready to make the trip down to Virginia in two weeks. She received her seventh NJAC Swimmer of the Week honors this season after her tri-meet performance last weekend.
“I think the team this year has really grown. I think if this year is a projection of what the team is gonna look like next year, then I think it is gonna be a great season,” Pennington said.
