Rowan men’s indoor track & field wrapped up two events this past weekend. On Friday, the team participated in the Widener Winter Evening Invite at Penn’s Ott Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the two-day Dr. Sander Invitational at the NYC Armory in New York.
Head coach Dustin Dimit was grateful for the opportunity to be able to compete at both events on Friday and Saturday.
“We’re happy,” said Dimit. “Both getting some good work for a mid-season meet and continuing to work towards our goals for the end of the year.”
During the two meetings, multiple Profs were able to achieve new PRs in various events.
Sophomore Jamile Gantt placed second on Friday in the high jump (2.03 meters). Dimit was pleased with not only Gantt’s performance on Friday but his consistency throughout the season.
“Those jumps are all consistent,” said Dimit. “So we’re really happy with that. Definitely look to see what he can do at the end of the year.”
Senior James Coleman ran his second-fastest indoor time in the 200 meters (22.30) for the Profs on Friday, clocking in a fifth-place finish. Dimit was impressed with Coleman’s ability to achieve this goal early in the season.
“If you’re doing that early in the season, that’s what we want,” said Dimit. “We just want to see improvement from each person.”
Junior Josh Caudill recorded PRs in two separate events on Friday; the weight throw (13.64 meters) and the shot (14.89 meters). Dimit credits assistant coach Joseph Kalnas for the Profs’ recent success in events such as weight throw and the shot.
“We have a new throws coach this year, Joe,” said Dimit. “And he’s been doing a great job with those guys and they’ve been working really hard. And you see it, as they are consistently putting up good numbers.”
While this two-day weekend meet was the team’s first after winter break, Dimit was elated that his guys put the work in during the holiday season and is confident that they will continue to improve for future meets.
“Just good work,” said Dimit. “Talking about the things we need to work on as we’re moving forward to continue to get better. I’m just really happy that people were continuing to put in the work and put the work in over a break.”
The Profs will be back in action this Friday at the METS Championship at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, New York.
