The Glassboro council held their monthly meeting on Jan. 14, the first one of 2025.
It was a brief meeting, as there were no presentations or public hearings scheduled. Instead, the council, all in very good spirits, went through what reports they received from the borough’s different departments.
Council President Anna Miller issued a thank you to all of the Glassboro Department members for working through the harsher weather conditions from the start of the year.
“I just want to say thank you to the Highway Department and all of the Glassboro Department employees that are working in all of these elements that we’re dealing with. The cold, the snow, the rain, we really appreciate it,” said Miller.
Council President Miller also announced an opening in Glassboro’s Building and Grounds Maintenance, a position which has since been posted on Glassboro’s website.
Additionally during the meeting, Council President Miller gifted her fellow council members hats with the phrase “Keep Glassboro Great” written on the front of each one, coining the phrase as the borough’s new motto.
Councilman Andrew Halter reported that Water and Sewer had been busy with a few water main breaks, but nothing too major.
Board Engineer Mark Brunermer gave his updates about construction within Glassboro, specifically how the weather has affected what exactly the town’s construction workers can get done.
“The weather’s too cold to do much outside with quality work,” said Brunermer. “So they’re all taking advantage of doing the inside, and I know that there’s at least two or three projects that are getting very near to getting done, finally getting all their approvals and sign offs. So there’ll be another wave of construction happening this Spring.”
Near the end of the meeting, there was also an ordinance of the borough of Glassboro, County of Gloucester, and State of New Jersey introduced providing for the renaming of Tucker Street to Rock Road in Glassboro.
The meeting ended with the council opening up the meeting to the public, but nobody had any questions or concerns for the council, and the meeting was swiftly closed to the public and then adjourned shortly thereafter.
