Rowan men’s indoor track & field finished in second place this past Friday, Jan. 31 at the METS Championships at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, New York. The Profs were able to tally 156.5 points, while Fordham secured 188 points for first place.
Head coach Dustin Dimit was pleased with his team’s results from the meet, as he noticed significant improvements from their last contest.
“We’re real happy that we ended up second place despite not fielding people in a bunch of events, and happy with a lot of the improvements,” said Dimit. “That’s what we want to see each week, is just that continued improvement.”
Fifth-year student Marquise Young was one second away from tying his PR in the 60-meter hurdles, as he took home first place in the event with a time of 7.97. Young’s motivation going into the meet was dedicated to his late father.
“My motivation was my father because that was four years of his passing,” said Young. “I went into that meet, I prepped Thursday, went into the meet Friday motivated, and I just used him to move me along to have a good race, have a good day.”
Young has been on the team since his freshman year at Rowan, and fast forward to 2025, he is extremely proud to be the veteran of the team and a role model for the younger generation.
“I try to be that veteran leader as much as possible,” said Young. “As much I tell them that I’m a student-athlete, I try to lead by example as much as possible and just show them things that I didn’t know when I was a freshman.”
The NJAC Men’s Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Week, Rajahn Dixon, finished third in the 200 meters (21.92). Dixon was shocked that he received the award and is grateful for the recognition.
“I think, honestly, I was a little surprised,” said Dixon. “I didn’t see it until a couple days ago. I was happy that I won it. I was surprised a little bit, but it was cool to have received that award.”
The Profs will return to Ocean Breeze next Friday for the Fasttrack Invitational. Dimit’s main goal for that meet is clear: start locking up spots for nationals in March.
“We’re just more of the same from the last couple of weeks where we should have great competition,” said Dimit. “We should see some improvements. Then we really want next week on to be the weeks where we really start seeing the times dropped and really start solidifying our spots for nationals.”
