Recently, students on campus may have been experiencing connectivity issues with Rowan WiFi. These connectivity issues, according to Erin O’Neill, assistant director of communications for Information Resources & Technology (IRT), are not related to any recent events that IRT is aware of.
“While we often work with students to troubleshoot individual connectivity issues, we are not aware of any large-scale concerns with WiFi access or speeds across campus,” said O’Neill.
In fact, recently, Rowan has endeavored to update network infrastructure, with new systems in Robinson, upgraded systems in James, as well as many residence halls on campus.
Hope Adams, a senior legal studies major, says her WiFi connection on campus can sometimes be spotty. She was completing work on the first floor of Bunce Hall, where the WiFi signal was “pretty strong.”
“In other buildings, it’s weaker, but this one is pretty strong,” said Adams.
Adams finds that the only solution she has to WiFi problems on campus is to connect to Rowan Secure instead.
“The Rowan Wi-Fi has always been pretty spotty that’s why Rowan Secure is better,” said Adams.
O’Neill encourages students to try disconnecting from Rowan WiFi, forgetting the network, and then reconnecting.
“This often resolves any connectivity issues. If issues persist, please report these concerns directly to our support team with as much detail as possible,” said O’Neill.
Connectivity issues can be related to a range of things, from recent winter weather to aging infrastructure. IRT cannot address these issues without reports from students or faculty, informing them that they exist.
To report WiFi problems or other technical issues, students can visit IRT’s website or support.rowan.edu.
