The Paint and Plant event in the 230 Victoria Lobby on March 11 was a delightful experience for Rowan University’s students. From the moment you walk in, you receive a warm welcome from fellow students who reside in the Nexus apartments. Whether you like to take care of plants or just paint, these recurring events are aimed at students who may enjoy the arts and nature. This event aims to get students to learn how to take care of a little piece of nature or for beginners having the desire to garden.
All of the students that attended seemed very relaxed and seemed to enjoy socializing with one another while everyone explored their green thumbs and artistic abilities. Senior Stefan Kossis felt that this program has always been pretty successful, considering his friend started it for his love of plants.
“I love holding programs and have done this in the past. And this program is always super successful, which is great to see,” Kossis said.

Sophomore Ethan Harvey feels as though there will be more events like this.
“I feel like a lot of people like plants. It’s good to take a break, especially as students. And you know taking care of something that’s living,” Harvey said.
This sentiment reflects the broader appeal of such events at Rowan. Providing a much-needed break from academic pressures while fostering a sense of responsibility and connection to something living. Junior Erin Echegaray-Matthews is also a part of making this event come together as a student who used to paint often, is delighted that her fellow neighbors in Nexus and she can bring painting into Rowan University, with a touch of green.
“I haven’t painted often but would love to get back into it. And since it’s midterm month, this is the perfect opportunity to have students unwind and de-stress. Having a touch of green and a little outlet,” said Echegaray-Matthews.
The Paint and Plant event aims to align with Rowan University’s ideology and commitment to providing engaging and diversified activities for their fellow community. Similar to other events on campus, such as the Student Center and different campus activities, this program gives students a chance to unwind, socialize, and explore different interests outside of just academic pursuits. The college’s vibrant campus, with facilities like the Rowan University Fitness Center located in the 230 Victoria Street building, offers a unique blend of academic and recreational opportunities that enhance the student experience.

Many attendees expressed how relaxing and satisfying it was to pick out which plant they wanted. Additionally, Rowan University aims to improve campus access to essential products, which demonstrates the university’s commitment to student well-being and inclusivity.
Hosting events like Paint and Plant is the latest in student-led initiatives that aim to create a dynamic and healthy campus environment. As Rowan University is growing and evolving, such events play a crucial role in fostering a sense of belonging and providing students with memorable experiences during their time on campus.
