Rowan men’s outdoor track and field hosted the ninth-annual Oscar Moore Invitational at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium in Glassboro, New Jersey, on Saturday, April 12, in addition to honoring the team’s seniors prior to the meet.
While there was no team scoring at the event, the Profs were able to survive the harsh weather conditions. Head coach Dustin Dimit was happy to compete at Coach Wackar Stadium despite the weather.
“It’s always nice to have the track resurfaced, so it was nice to have a meet here,” said Dimit. “Would’ve liked to have some warmer weather.”
The Profs were led by New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Track Athlete of the Week Evan Corcoran with his season-best time in the 100 meters (10.70). Fresh off his stellar performance, Dimit is excited to see him run this week at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
“We were really happy and excited to see what he can do in warm weather in Georgia this week,” said Dimit.
Another highlight for the Profs was sophomore Colin Patterson’s first-place finish in the 1500 meters (4:04.41). Patterson, who was competing at Coach Wackar Stadium for the first time, stated how important it was to have the meet at home.
“This was my first time competing here, so it was nice to finally race on our home track,” said Patterson.
The Profs were represented in the men’s high jump as freshman Noah Wampole claimed first place (2.06). Wampole, who also won NJAC Rookie of the Week, was motivated by his loved ones in attendance.
“This is gonna be the first meet that my grandma and my mom came to, and just having my family there, I knew I had to do something special,” said Wampole.
The weather conditions affected Wampole, but made him battle-tested going into the future.
“I would say this weekend, I think at first it was affecting me in a bad way, because my mentality was like almost, I was just giving up,” said Wampole. “Once I started jumping, I started feeling it I said, if I can jump well on this, I can jump well forever. And I think in the end, it being cold, it being wet, helped me and it pushed me to jump six-nine.”
The Profs will be back in action this weekend at the Paul Donohue Invitational in Chester, Pennsylvania, and the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia. Dimit is hoping for warm weather so his athletes can have the best chance to succeed.
“I just hope we get warmer weather so we can get better performances, better results, and looking forward to that this week with warm weather at both locations,” said Dimit.
