Rowan women’s outdoor track and field team came up short over the weekend at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship on May 3 and 4 in Ewing, NJ. The Profs finished second with 220 points, while host The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) tallied 223.5 points.
The highlight of the weekend for the team was freshman Nyla Jones’ first-place performance in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.42) and 100 meter hurdles (14.35). Jones was extremely pleased with her performance over the weekend.
Another highlight of the meet was graduate-student Izzy Deal’s first-place performance in the shot put (14.12 meters). Her performance moved up to #9 in Division III with her event-winning result. Deal’s motivation going into the meet was to enjoy the moment with her team.
The Profs will be back in action on Monday, May 12 at the Widener Last Chance Meet for last chances at qualifying for the Division III Championships which kick off on May 22nd. Head coach Shedrick Elliot III says he always wants to see consistency from his team.
“There was something that they could walk away from,” said Elliot III. “Continue to build off of what they’ve been doing so far.”
