No. 18 Rowan Field Hockey defeated Arcadia on Saturday in a blowout, 7-0, victory at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium. With the win, the Profs improved to 6-3 on the year, while capturing their largest win-margin of the season on senior day.
Prior to the game, the team honored seniors Mabel Acuna-Casey, Kylie Elwell, Tess Herman, Mariah Juiliano, Katie Meehan, Amber Powell, Alexa Ronning, Kaylee Wenzel, and Paige Yocum with a ceremony.
“They have all been the true heart of the team this year,” head coach Michelle Andre said.
The Profs did not find the back of the net to start the game in the first quarter, despite having multiple chances on offense. The Profs had eight corners in the first quarter.
Sydney Kowalczyk lit the lamp in the second quarter, scoring the first goal of the game. Just three minutes later, Kylie Elwell scored her first goal of the year, doubling the lead. Alexa Ronning then scored off a penalty shot to make it 3-0. Before the end of the first half, Kaylee Wenzel snuck one into the net to end a dominant four-goal quarter for Rowan.
Five minutes into the second half, Kowalczyk scored her second goal of the day, now leading the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC ) with eight goals on the season, putting the Profs up 5-0.
“The girls I am playing with are all team players, and they set me up well,” Kowalczyk said. “All the credit goes to them.”
Herman joined in on the scoring rampage, notching her third goal of the season in the fourth quarter. One minute later, freshman Grace Angelo scored her first career goal to make it 7-0.
In total, the Profs put up 42 shots with 25 on goal. Rowan also dominated in penalty corners today, 17-1. The defense held the Knights in check, only allowing two shots in the game today. Juiliano played three quarters, picking up both saves before freshman Ella Morton came in to finish out the game.
“I think we did a good job of maintaining our style of play,” coach Andre said. “We play the schedule, we play in order to be prepared for the conference and perform at the national stage.”
Now, the Profs will go back on the road this Wednesday to take on Messiah in Grantham, Pennsylvania.
