The one thing that could have ensured a victory for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election is if she vowed to ban Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving day. Early Christmas decorating is an epidemic that in recent years has swept the nation. It seems like it is getting sooner and sooner every year. One year not so far away, we will be able to buy our Christmas lights along with our back-to-school supplies.
The day after Halloween I went to my local ShopRite like I do every other week. However, upon arrival, something seemed off. I walked toward the entrance of the store and looked up in disbelief — Christmas decorations everywhere. I proceeded to panic while I looked around the whole shopping center and saw wreaths hung above every store. The only thing that calmed me down was reminding myself it was only Nov. 1, and I still had about a month to build up my sad bank account — which at the time couldn’t even get me a number one at McDonalds.
Don’t get me wrong, Christmas season is the best time of the year. However, it can wait until after my favorite day — Black Friday. But Black Friday wouldn’t be special at all without the greatest pregame of all time, which many call Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year. You wake up and your main priority for the whole day is to eat, which is my only priority every other day of the year; however, on Thanksgiving it’s much more acceptable. Another great part about Thanksgiving is you eat dinner around 3 p.m., which allows you to eat one or two more dinners by midnight. There is nothing like having a day off to overeat with friends and family who you don’t get to see very often. The laughs, the good food and great football games top off one of the greatest holidays we celebrate in America.
When everybody starts to leave from Thanksgiving dinner, the holiday season mentality can go into full effect. Along with some of my close family and friends, I lock and load my wallet and put on my running shoes. Black Friday is coming. We pile into the car and speed off to the mall to make certain we can claim all the best deals before anyone else. There are no rules on Black Friday. Many people thought the movie “The Purge” was a fictional story. However, if you went out shopping on Black Friday you would start to realize how the premise of the movie originated.
When the dust settles at the break of dawn on Black Friday, Christmas season is here. So stop all of your early Christmas music and decorating to enjoy the best two days November has to offer. Do not overlook Thanksgiving this year. I encourage you to join me, and with your help we can end the premature celebrating of Christmas together!
