‘Boro Bucks to be re-branded

Along with the other changes happening around campus, Rowan University has decided to re-brand its currency system.

What students currently know as ‘Boro Bucks will be switching over to “Rowan Bucks.” As the univeristy continues to expand, it was decided that the name should be changed to Rowan Bucks, so that the currency name is relevant for all campuses, not just exclusive to Glassboro.

Since only the name will be changing, students will not need to get a new ID card and the funds on their current account will also remain the same, said Card Services Director Christine Noon.

When it comes to how the change will affect off-campus meal options, Noon said once the final stages of the re-branding have been approved, all merchants will be notified before the new system goes into affect, so they can adjust to using the new name.

A contest for the new design has been opened up to all Rowan students. Students, faculty and staff will be judging this competition to determine a winner. Students can enter by visiting rowan.edu/RowanCard, and the deadline is March 11 for submission of designs.

“The design we are looking for is a little tricky; we want a new look for Rowan Bucks, something entirely different than the old Boro Bucks design,” said Student Center employee Jeff Williams, who is helping coordinate the competition.

The winner of the competition will receive $200 in Rowan Bucks.

“I will definitely be submitting a design,” said sophomore radio, television and film major Juliana Ferrauilo. “I enjoy making graphics, and who doesn’t love free money?”

Although Bella Macaro, a sophomore education major, won’t be entering a design, she is intrigued about the change.

“I think this is a good step in the right direction for Rowan,” Macaro said. “I like how they are opening it up to the students for their input.”

Rowan hopes to have the new design in place for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year.
