The search for missing Rowan student Ryan Albert, 30, came to an end as the cold weather continues to pick up, according to the Courier Post.
Last month on Oct. 4, Albert made the attempt to climb Longs Peak in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Multiple efforts have been made to search for the student on the 14,259 foot-high peak, but the weather posed many issues in the process, according to the Courier Post.
“’We plan for search efforts to resume when the snow melts and conditions improve,’ the park said in a statement Friday,” reported by the Courier Post.
Albert is a senior computer science major at Rowan and was reported missing as of Oct. 5, according to the Rowan announcer.
Weather conditions such as waist- and chest-deep snow and steep icy slopes hindered the search for Albert. These conditions can cause clues of his location to be lost, according to the Courier Post.
”’In the absence of additional clues combined with extreme winter conditions at higher elevations that will exist until late spring, we will have no active search operations during the winter months,'” said the park’s statement reported by the Courier Post.
The Rowan Announcer email, sent to students last month, advised students troubled by this to speak to the Wellness Center for direct counseling or other services by calling (856)-256-4333. For those who wish to speak to a counselor after hours may contact public safety at (856)-256-4911.
