Ten individuals face charges after three warrants for residences in Glassboro and one home in Somerdale, New Jersey resulted in the discovery of narcotics and weapons.
According to the Glassboro Police Department, the searches of the places in Glassboro yielded a total of 21 pounds of raw marijuana, 1.65 pounds of THC wax, THC edibles, prescription medications, and suspected LSD. No weapons were found in Glassboro.
The three buildings searched in Glassboro are located on the unit block of Church Street, the 100 block of University Boulevard, and the 100 block of Dickinson Road.
According to Joe Cardona, the vice president for university relations and university spokesperson, eight of the individuals are currently Rowan students while one is an alumnus.
The eight students involved face charges like possession of marijuana over 50 grams, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Another student faces the additional charges of manufacture and distribution of marijuana, possession of controlled dangerous substances (CDS)/Adderall, and possession of LSD. The former Rowan student only faces possession of marijuana under 50 grams.
According to Cardona, all students involved now face interim suspension until their judicial board meeting with the school. The students can continue to attend class virtually; however, they are not permitted on campus or allowed to participate in extracurricular activities.
The warrant for the house in Somerdale, New Jersey yielded approximately 16.5 pounds of marijuana, 115 grams of THC wax, about 100 cannabis oil extracts, around 200 one-gram THC vape oils, seven firearms, and roughly $40,000 in U.S. currency.
The suspect in Somerdale was the only one charged with no connection to Rowan University. The individual faces charges of maintaining a facility for the manufacturing of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, money laundering, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a weapon while committing a CDS offense, and possession of marijuana over 50 grams.
All subjects charged were released on summonses pending court appearances.
According to Glassboro PD’s press release, the warrants were received after multiple local and federal agencies became aware of numerous packages sent through the U.S. Postal Service that indicated narcotics.
The investigation had assistance from the Glassboro Police Department Tactical Entry Team, Gloucester County SWAT Team, Gloucester County HIDTA Initiative, Inspira Hospital Tactical Paramedic, Camden County Prosecutors Office Suburban Narcotics Task Force, Camden County SERT Team and Tactical Medics, United States Postal Inspection Service and the United States Homeland Security Investigations of Cherry Hill.
