The Rowan field hockey team has been on a roll this year with an undefeated record of 12-0 more than halfway through their schedule.
The Profs have already played the hardest part of the schedule already. They beat at the time no. two Johns Hopkins University 2-1 back on Saturday, Sept. 10. They have since dominated against their New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponents, including rival The College of New Jersey (TCNJ).
Head Coach Michelle Andre explains that every game is equally important for this team no matter the opponent.
“Every game is a building block to see how we want to get into the playoffs,” Coach Andre said. “We are in our last third of our season. We are getting healthy. We are in shape. People are starting to come along and the bench is getting deeper which is a really good thing. So everything builds up to these moments. But we still need to take it a day at a time.”
Senior goalie captain Abby Hainsworth is excited for the remaining part of the schedule but knows they still have a couple of tough NJAC opponents left.
“I think we are really excited for it,” Hainsworth said. “Going off the success that we have had so far being 12-0. We have some really good teams coming up like Kean and Salisbury. We are looking to keep the undefeated streak.”
Senior midfielder and back Rachel Stone echoed her teammate’s thoughts, knowing that despite having already beaten some of their toughest opponents, they need to take each game, one game at a time.
“I think we need to always look at the schedule the same way,” Stone said. “We can not underestimate teams we have to out and play hard against them and every team that we play.”
It is clear Rowan is not underestimating any opponent. Their eye is on the prize, which is not only the NJCA Championships but also the return to the NCAA Division III Final Four, which will be on their home turf.
Before that though, the Profs are focused on their next matchup, which will be when they travel to Widener University on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
