The Rowan lacrosse team picked up their fourth consecutive win after defeating Stevenson University 17-7 on Saturday, March 25.
Stevenson got on the board first, but goals from Elaina Corson, Molly Green and two from Erin Renshaw helped put the Profs up 5-1 after the first quarter. Mel Rodgers bounced back after allowing the initial goal as well, making incredible saves to end the first quarter and help limit Stevenson’s offense.
Senior Julianna Corson got the second quarter action started for the Profs after racking up a goal early in the quarter. On the very next possession, Julianna found her sister Elaina Corson for her second goal of the day to send the team and crowd into a massive cheer.
“It just feels amazing when we assist on each other’s goals because obviously it’s our first year playing together and it’s just so special,” Elaina Corson said.
When the sisters connect for a goal the excitement isn’t just felt by the two of them.
“Oh my god, it’s so exciting. I think it brings the energy up so much,” Julianna Corson said. “I think the energy radiates to the entire team as well.”
You could see the energy radiate through the team as the second quarter unfolded, as Jamie Cutrera followed that up with three consecutive goals of her own to highlight a 12-1 halftime lead for the Profs.
Rowan’s offense stayed hot after the intermission with Elaina Corson and Cutrera finding the back of the cage for their third and fourth goal, respectively. Stevenson attempted to claw back into it with four straight goals, but couldn’t make it any closer than an eight-goal difference.
After hat tricks from Renshaw, the Corson sisters and Cutrera, along with another great defensive game, Coach Lindsay Delaney was extremely pleased with the team’s performance on both sides of the ball.
“I think offensively, we were in complete control, we made smart decisions. Defensively, we adjusted to their play,” Coach Delaney said. “That’s a really nice team and we made them look like they weren’t as strong as they are because our defense was much stronger and they communicate well, it’s a total team effort down there.”
One thing that kept the team together during the game was the constant support they felt from their teammates on the sidelines.
“Honestly, I think what really got us this win was our energy,” Julianna Corson said. “From the start, we were so hyped and we were just cheering each other on and I think that’s what really brought us together and got us the win.”
The team will look to keep the good vibes rolling when they host Cabrini University on Wednesday, March 29, at 4 p.m.
