Rowan University has created a new way to help students get through difficult times.
Rowan University has created a Cares Team to help students get connected with resources that can help students through specific situations. Faculty and students can make a Cares Report to help their student or friend that they are concerned about. The Cares Report is designed to encourage their students to speak about the difficulty they are experiencing with regard to their social life, coping with their environment, and/or dealing with a life circumstance.
The Care Team is known to seek out the best outreach for the student. Once a faculty submits a Cares Report it is sent to the Coordinator, Chrissy Feil, and the Cares Team would meet with the student weekly and find the right outreach for the student. During the weekly meetings, the student is asked to do a pre-reflection to get to know the rate of the situation and make sure they receive the correct resources.
“We asked them to submit or complete a pre-reflection that goes through like all of the things our office deals with and rate where you are at so that we know when we are talking with the student, we have a whole picture,” said Chrissy Feil.
The Cares Team hopes to be beneficial for the university at large and individual students.
“There are a lot of challenges that students are experiencing. We understand that there is no reason for you to know how the ins and outs of a university like this works. I think Rowan does a really good job with faculty building relationships with students,” Feil said.
Rowan provides access to all resources that are beneficial to the students and the Cares Team makes sure they get a whole grasp of the challenge a student is facing. So Cares reports have been around for many years now. Saying the university has “has created a new way” is quite misleading.
