A packed schedule of college football included another rendition of the Red River Rivalry and a matchup between two top-three-ranked teams. Multiple top-ranked teams battled and survived in one-score games against weaker opponents. With that being said, it’s time for another edition of risers, fallers, and ballers to help break down this past weekend’s action and look ahead at 2025 NFL Draft prospects.
Risers:
Tre Harris, WR, Ole Miss
At 6’3 and 210 pounds, Harris has the prototypical build of an X receiver in the NFL. The country’s leading receiver is already up to 987 yards in seven games. In five of those games, Harris has produced over 100 yards including having 225 yards and two touchdowns against Georgia Southern.
Most recently, Harris went for seven catches for 102 yards and a touchdown against 13th-ranked Louisiana State. The fifth-year senior transferred from Louisiana Tech to the Rebels before the 2023 season and has already eclipsed his career high in receiving yards in a season this year. With the supply of talented receivers in recent draft classes being high, Harris, along with other receiver prospects, will be looking to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. Harris is the current front-runner for the Biletnikoff Award and could find himself an NFL home within the first two rounds because of it as well.
Charles Grant, OT, William & Mary
Yes, the Tribe of William & Mary will most likely be represented at some point in the draft this April. Grant looks like a behemoth of a lineman, listed only at 6’4 and 300 pounds. His highlight reel looks like any other top-tier offensive tackle prospect, pancaking pass rushers and playing with aggression. The senior tackle has dominated Howard and Towson in the past couple of weeks, not allowing a single pressure in 75 pass block snaps. Grant may end up having a more NFL interior guard-like build, but his physicality and dominance in the FCS cannot be understated. If Grant continues to dominate FCS competition, expect him to be your favorite draft analyst’s draft crush this spring.
Fallers:
Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State
The depth of the 2025 offensive tackle class took a blow when Ohio State’s Josh Simmons went down with what has ended up being a season-ending injury in the Buckeye’s 32-31 loss to the Oregon Ducks. Simmons has been spectacular as Ohio State’s starting left tackle this season, allowing only one pressure through the first six weeks of the season. Before the matchup against Oregon, Simmons had four straight games with a pass-blocking grade of 80 or better. With other top tackle prospects not meeting preseason expectations in the first half of the year, Simmons was bound for a major leap up the boards if he could continue his impressive play. Unfortunately for Simmons, he will have to watch from the sidelines for the rest of this season, however, he does have eligibility left to potentially come back to Columbus in 2025.
Noah Fifita, QB, Arizona
Fifita was one of my favorite quarterback prospects heading into the 2024 college football season. Fifita’s uniqueness comes with his physical appearance listed at only 5 ’10 and 188 pounds. Historically, quarterbacks at this size don’t tend to develop well in the NFL with the only exception being Kyler Murray (who was much heavier). Fifita’s college success with high school teammate Tetairoa McMillan has been fun to watch in Tucson. However, his 2024 season has not gotten off to the start he had hoped. Fifita has thrown an interception in each game he has played in this season including five in his past two games. The Wildcat offense isn’t finding success this season which is tanking his draft stock.
Baller:
Penn State TE Tyler Warren vs USC (17 catches, 224 yards, TD)
Let me introduce you to the best tight-end prospect in the 2025 draft class. Warren has been on fire for the Nittany Lions this season and can do it all in the offense, including taking snaps! Warren is fighting to be the first tight end off the board in April with Michigan’s Colston Loveland who is currently injured. Warren took advantage of being in a big game against the Trojans of USC and delivered a historic game with over 200 receiving yards.
