Rowan football looked to get there season underway on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium. Mother Nature had other plans.
After a combined four hours of delays, the Profs season opener against Case Western Reserve was ruled a 17-17 tie, despite Rowan leading 17-14 with just over two minutes left in the third quarter. The decision was mutually agreed upon by head coaches, referees, and athletic directors of both parties, according to Rowan Athletics. Game statistics are pending via the NCAA rulebook.
Game action kicked off at 1 p.m. on Saturday and completed the first half of play before entering a lightning delay at halftime. After over an hour, the second half began at 3:40 p.m.
The game would continue until 2:07 mark of third quarter, when the second lighting delay occurred. Several hours later, play was set to resume at 7 p.m., but was inevitably suspended at 6:45 p.m.
Rowan will face Moravian in week two at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m on Saturday, Sept. 13.
