Rowan University’s women’s volleyball team got back on track with a, 3-0, win on Thursday against the 9-15 Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers Camden.
Thursday’s game was the first game after a devastating loss against Kean University on Tuesday, which ended their ten game win streak. The loss may have ended their win streak and gave them their first loss in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), but the Profs still had hope entering Thursday’s game.
“Kean definitely took us by surprise, but the thing that our coach always likes to say is, ‘You take it in, and you can be mad for 24 hours, and then after that, you move on, and you figure your next steps out,’” said sophomore middle hitter Ava Best.
The Profs wanted to turn the tide after a rough match on Tuesday. The Profs’ offense showed up quickly in Thursday’s match, as Rowan took a quick seven point lead. The Profs dominated Rutgers Camden, 25-10, in the first set.
The offensive momentum didn’t stop there. Rowan went on to sweep the Scarlet Raptors in three sets (25-10, 25-11, 25-14).
The Profs are now 5-1 in conference play, just below Kean University.
An aggressive offense is nothing new to the Profs of Rowan University. With standout players such as Jessica Smart and Jena Kaul, Rowan’s offense has been one to beat this season. Sophomore middle hitter Ava Best reached her personal best in kills during Tuesday’s match. She kept the momentum going and went into Thursday’s match ready to show off.
“I felt pretty strong. I know we’ve been working a lot on middle center connections, which has been a big thing all season…So I felt pretty confident going into it yesterday,” Best said.
She wasn’t done yet. During Thursday’s game, she put another four kills under her belt.
The Profs are set to hit the road this weekend as they face Misericordia University and Albright College in Dallas, Pa. These two matches are not conference games, but they are using these matches to prepare for upcoming NJAC matches.
“It’s less stressful than an NJAC game, but we can use it to get our vibes up, get our momentum up, and just do more things in game play,” said junior opposite hitter Abby Chadwick.
