Local families, students, and staff gathered for Rowan University’s 21st annual Haunted Student Center event in the Chamberlain Student Center.
On Oct. 24, families brought their children to Rowan University’s student center to trick or treat, play games, and celebrate one of Rowan’s spookiest traditions. The Haunted Student Center was hosted by the Chamberlain Student Center and Campus Activities and featured a DJ, photo booth, food, games, balloon animals, and screened movies such as “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”
Children, parents, staff, and students all dressed up in costumes for the event, with each floor of the student center decorated with different inflatables and spooky decor, bringing Halloween spirit to the student center on Friday evening.
“I think it’s a great place to build a lot of community. You know, we can get lost in our own personal lives, so being able to come together as a community, share laughs, and just have a good time giving back to the community, and also participating in an event like this. I think it’s really great,” said Shane McSorley, a junior biochemistry major and member of the American Chemical Society.

Numerous clubs and organizations from Rowan dressed up, decorated their tables, and handed out candy to children of the Glassboro community. Many of these organizations were in rooms of the student center that were decorated and set up with different quick activities for the children.
The event allowed for a safe, fun, and family-friendly environment for parents and families to bring their children, staying out of the chilly weather of late October.
“I love the fact that y’all did so much work on everything, you know, everything turned out very nice,” said Serria Scott, a parent who attended the event.
Rowan and the attendees brought great energy to the student center for this event, creating an inclusive space for all and a chance to make the Glassboro community even stronger.
The event also allowed all people who came to become more familiar with Rowan and the organizations and clubs that they have to offer on campus. Locals of the community were able to see what Rowan has to offer, as well as how they can get involved in the community on campus.
“I think it’s a very fun event. It’s first of all to get involved. There’s different organizations and clubs on campus. If you don’t know them, you’re welcome to know more about them. There’s a DJ, there’s food, a lot of candy. We love good candy. I think it’s a very inclusive event,” said Julietta Carmona, a senior radio, television & film major and marketing assistant for the student center.
