The Profs are gearing up for the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship in Men’s Cross Country, set for Saturday at 11:15 a.m. in Galloway at Stockton’s home course.
“Every meet we’re a little more focused, a little more prepared,” head coach Dustin Dimit said. “The goal is to go out there and try to win our fifth straight NJAC title. It’s going to be hard, and TCNJ is the top-ranked team in the region right now. We’ll go out there and see what we can do.”
Last season, with The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) as hosts, Joshua Cason took home first place to kick off his postseason run. He was followed by five Profs in the top ten. Scott Hubbard, now a senior, placed fourth with Colin Patterson in fifth. Miles Voenell in seventh, Caleb Clevenger in eighth, and Matthew Conway in tenth rounded out some Prof domination.
The Profs were able to take a visit to Stockton’s course for the second time this season, as a way to train for what’s ahead.
“It’s really good because we can see ‘where do we take advantage of different turns,’” Conway said. “My plan is to stick with the top group, and sort of run with them and see how it pans out. I think that’s the easiest way to describe it.”
Dimit felt that the training at Stockton was certainly beneficial as well.
“You can really visualize the course as you’re trying to prepare leading up to the race,” Dimit said. “And just make sure everybody’s really familiar with everything there.”
Conway and Patterson have put together very strong seasons for the Profs this year. Patterson has shown tremendous consistency in his senior season, while Conway has continued on the path he established in his senior year last season.
“I want to see them both be first team all-conference,” Dimit said. “I want to see them go out there and hopefully run lifetime bests. I think they’re definitely capable of that. And then, contend for that individual conference title. Matt was the top guy in our conference at Lehigh four weeks ago.”
Last week at Rowan’s Border Battle, Conway finished 10th, leading all Profs. Patterson followed him in 24th.
The Profs have a challenge in front of them with TCNJ, but look to continue making history with a fifth straight conference title hanging in the balance.
