After relaunching the Her Campus Media chapter at Rowan this past summer, Kaila Casco, a sophomore marketing major, is leading aspiring content creators and strategic communicators.
Her Campus Media is a global media platform and community for college women featuring multimedia content on pop culture, style, health, career, and campus life. The platform’s website and global communities offer students hands-on opportunities for networking, brand partnerships, internships, creator programs, journalism media, and marketing media.
Since 2021, Her Campus Rowan has been inactive on Rowan’s campus until Casco formally reinstated the chapter as president on Aug. 25, 2025. Her Campus Media, since starting back up meetings this semester, now publishes student content five times a week and has gained about 40 members.
“I reached out to literally everyone possible. I kind of described it in a way where I knew girls would be excited, no matter what you’re interested in, I could find a way that you would be interested in Her Campus,” said Casco. “Even if it’s not social media, even if it’s not beauty, we work with a lot of different brands, so it’s really cool for all types of girls.”
Casco learned about the media platform from a family friend who relaunched the chapter at Syracuse University. After hearing about the media platform’s opportunities, she was inspired to work towards reinstating the same chapter on Rowan’s campus.
“My cousin goes to the University of Virginia, and she is involved in Her Campus there, and her best friend relaunched it in Syracuse,” said Casco. “Her best friend comes to a lot of our family events, and we were just talking. She is also a marketing major and like the same person as me. She was like, ‘It’s a perfect way to make friends and connect with brands just to get your name out there but also other people’s names.’”
Casco began the process of working with Her Campus Media to relaunch the chapter at Rowan in November 2024. She sought out to find an executive board as well as social media, marketing, and editorial team members. In hopes of finding students interested in holding the positions, she utilized a recruitment team to help her reach out to potential new members.
“It was pretty lengthy since it’s not the school organization right now,” said Casco. “I had to do everything through Her Campus. I had to get like 100 girls to sign a form. I had to find a vice president, I had to find an exec board. I really had to reach out to hundreds of girls and see if any of them were slightly interested. It took almost a full year to get everything done.”
Avery Sullivan, the vice president of Her Campus Rowan, is a senior studying psychology and works closely with Casco to grow the media platform. Under her role, she assists with the club’s recruitment, keeping up with article deadlines, and with event planning.
“We had to recruit all of these girls, but it was so fun and so rewarding,” said Sullivan. “As vice president, I help Kaila a lot with recruitment and ideas for the different events that we have, also I make sure that the articles get out on time.”
When Julia Carmona, a senior studying radio, television, & film, received a message from the Her Campus Rowan recruitment team, she found her niche in becoming a content creator for the platform.
“I wanted to get involved on campus, so I joined Her Campus Media, and I thought it would be really good for my resume and things like that,” said Carmona. “I’m not involved in any TV and film type of clubs because I don’t really have a passion in that side, but I started creating content on my side, like my own stuff, so that’s kind of where I gained my passion with marketing and things like that.”
Carmona first found her passion for creating content when she was in eighth grade. She had created a YouTube account that, within that year, became shadowbanned, leading her to create another account her freshman year of high school. She continues posting to her YouTube account while studying at Rowan and has been posting on TikTok since her freshman year of college.
“I have always loved creating content ever since I was a little girl,” said Carmona. “I’ve always loved to film my life, I love to film my life on YouTube as well. When I was in sixth grade, I started posting content of high school and things like that, and I just kind of continued it. I feel like college is a great opportunity to have a lot of opportunities for college ambassador programs and to get involved.”
With a passion for creating college lifestyle content, Carmona uploads videos about what a day in her life looks like on campus and showcases campus events on her TikTok page. For content creators posting to the Her Campus Rowan TikTok account, each creator has a scheduled day to post new content.
“I’m a content creator for TikTok and Instagram. Right now, I’m posting TikTok content, so the past two videos I did a day in the life of doing things I love as being a girl, so I went to Target and a couple other spots that make me happy,” said Carmona. “I also did a day in the life of being a senior in college, and that did pretty well.”
Her Campus Rowan connects members of the platform with alumni and student networking opportunities as a global organization. The platform allows all students in the organization to connect with other members of Her Campus Media throughout the world and offers after-graduation career opportunities.
“It’s not only Rowan people, it’s people from all over the country. I’m in a group chat with girls from literally all over the U.S. because it’s a global club, so I get to meet a lot of new girls, new followers, new connections,” said Casco.
The global network of Her Campus Media offers brand partnership opportunities through its influencer and community programs, such as Campus Trendsetters and College Fashionista. These programs connect members with brands for influencer campaigns, brand ambassadorships, and on-campus sampling.
“We’re having a PR package get delivered soon, I think, and we’re gonna have an executive meeting and open the PR and go through it and figure out what to go from there,” said Sullivan. “I am a social media content creator, as like, my full-time job, so I’m really excited for the brand aspect because it’s like what I do for work, so I’m excited to incorporate that and partner with more brands.”
Her Campus Rowan will be hosting events monthly for all majors to attend, and they are actively recruiting new members.
“Never be scared to put yourself out there because I’ve gotten opportunities that I’m so grateful for, and I was scared at one point, too. I was scared of people judging me and things like that,” said Carmona. “At the end of the day, you should do it because you have a passion for it and don’t let anyone stop you because you’re your own person.”
