It is 2018 and what a time it is to be alive. As I write this, I could not be any prouder to be a fan of Philly sports teams. The Philadelphia Eagles are world champions. The Villanova Wildcats are National Champions. The Sixers and Flyers are in the playoffs. The Phillies are… Well, they are the Phillies. It is crazy to think how dark of a place I was in last year. The Phillies and Sixers were among the worst in their respected sports and the Eagles didn’t even make the playoffs.
Away from the Eagles winning their first ever Super Bowl against a team that is arguably the best ever, I would have to say the 76ers have been the most surprising team this year. They are currently 3rd place in the East, riding a 14-game win streak and attempting to get a franchise high 15 game win streak when they take on the Hawks on Tuesday night. The turnaround of this once embarrassing franchise is turning the heads of people across the country. With Ben Simmons at the helm, the Sixers seem unstoppable. And they will be a bigger force to reckon with when Joel Embiid comes back to the lineup. If the Sixers can maintain this hot streak going into the playoffs, the sky is really the limit for this young, talented team.
As far as the Flyers go, I won’t lie, I don’t follow them unless they make the playoffs. I am not the biggest hockey fan, but playoffs in the NHL is one of the best in all of sports. I am eagerly waiting for the first round matchup against the despicable Sidney Crosby and the Penguins. It doesn’t look like the Flyers have a great shot in the playoffs, but if we could knock off the Penguins I’m sure we could tally it up as a success.
It’s an exciting time to be a Philly sports fan, and it looks like we are just getting started. The Phillies are off to an extremely rocky start. However, a recent 20-run game has shown signs of potential for them. With Rhys Hoskins playing the way he is, it looks like we have a potential MVP candidate on our hands (knock on wood). 2018 will go down as one of the greatest years of my life all thanks to the years I have spent suffering, waiting for this glorious time in Philly sports.
