Rowan University’s engineering program is ranked No. 19 in the nation according to the U.S. News and Report 2022 review for colleges and programs.
Rowan is the second-highest-ranked program in New Jersey, behind Princeton University.
The College of Engineering began in 1995 after Henry Rowan and his wife Betty donated $100 million to, then, Glassboro State College. The couple’s only request was that an engineering program would be developed.
Twenty five years later, the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering is still addressing the weaknesses in general engineering education. With over 20 degree options, students in the engineering program are able to find a specialty that fits their individual interests.
“This year’s university and college rankings affirm what we have known for a long time: Rowan is a special place,” said Dr. Giuseppe Palmese, dean of the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering. “I am pleased to see our programs have received these recognitions and that our college and programs are included among the national leaders in engineering education.”
In addition to Rowan’s general engineering program, the electrical engineering program was ranked No. 16, the civil engineering program was ranked No. 15 and the mechanical engineering program was ranked No. 11.
“The program is very rigorous but for a good reason. Almost all of the professors have worked jobs in their profession and teach us direct skills of the trade,” said Jacob Cusumano, a senior electrical engineering major at Rowan. “We also work on actual projects every semester which apply to real-world applications.”
Real-world experiences and hands-on learning has allowed graduates to go on to work at companies such as Lockheed Martin, Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) and the United States Department of Defense. This could be why 94% of the program’s graduates are employed or furthering their education in graduate school.
“Students analyze, build and test their designs in a collaborative team environment using state-of-the-art machine tools and modern computational software,” said Dr. Ratneshwar (Ratan) Jhad, head of the department of mechanical engineering. “Our graduates are ready on day one to face the many challenges in this complex and uncertain world.”
These ranks aren’t the first time the College of Engineering has received accolades. In 2017, the College was recognized as a Carnegie-classified research institution. In the summer of 2019, Rowan was selected to lead a $14.5 million engineering project for the U.S. Army. Those are only some of the awards and partnerships the college has earned through its prestige and dedication to education.
These rankings demonstrate that the college is living up to its mission statement approved by the board of trustees, which states that the college “fosters an inclusive environment where impactful research and design are an integral part of educating critical thinkers and adaptive, creative problem solvers in a changing and challenged world.”

I see that Rowan is #19 for programs without doctorates.
Where is the list that shows Rowan #2 in NJ, just behind Princeton? I could not find that. Thank you.
