As the demand for workers continues to surge following the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic uncertainty it brought, Rowan University held its first in-person Career Fair of 2022, giving Rowan students a chance to network with professionals and seek out job opportunities.
The Career Fair, held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Rohrer College of Business, connected Rowan University students with employers such as Republic Bank, Enterprise and other well-known companies. The event was busy with over 55 employers managing tables.
The event was one of the first in-person networking events held by Rowan since the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic. During the pandemic, most events were held online, leaving many students and businesses floundering for connections in the midst of an online world.
Amie Rhyno, who currently serves as the Director at the Rohrer Center for Professional Development, stated that she was glad that the event was able to be in person.
“I think the most important outcome of this event was that the students got to engage in-person with employers, work out those nerves, and talk to people,” Rhyno said.
Although Rowan students were able to participate in online job fairs over the course of the pandemic, they were unable to make the in-person connections that often have the biggest differences in a career hunt.
According to Rhyno, employers were also glad to be in-person and make face-to-face connections with students.
This sentiment was echoed by Elisabeth Parker, a member of the event staff who helped facilitate the event.
“Every employer was excited that we were back in person,” Parker said.
According to Rhyno, nearly 400 Rowan University students attended the Career Fair to look for opportunities to network with potential employers or receive tips on their resumes and cover letters. Others gained helpful information about applying for internships or specific jobs from experienced recruiters.
This Career Fair is the first of seven held by Rowan during the semester. Each fair will allow students a chance to gain information about internships or job opportunities, network and practice interviewing skills.
The next job fair will be held on March 10 and will allow students to connect with non-profit organizations and government agencies. More information about upcoming job fairs can be found online on the Rowan University website.
