Every Friday, the Ric and Jean Edelman Planetarium will host “Laser Doors,” a planetarium show featuring the likeness and music of The Doors.
American rock band The Doors were one of the most successful bands during the 1960s, selling over 4 million albums. The band consisted of vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore.
“Laser Doors” had many psychedelic visuals to accompany the wavy music. The planetarium’s roof became a circus during the song “People Are Strange.” During this time, there were also appearances from a clown, an elephant man and a cannon.
“The designs made by the lasers were definitely my favorite part of the show. It created some trippy designs,” said biological science major Tribuvan Lanka.
During “Horse Latitudes,” the viewer gets taken to the sea with a horse to accompany them through the journey.
Some of the iconic songs played during the show included “Break on Through,” “Love Her Madly” and “Moonlight Drive.”
“The music, first of all, was great… It worked with the rhythm of the music like pulses,” said Paul Nazareth, 73, who attended the performance.
The show is a part of the winter schedule that runs every weekend from Jan. 6 to April 2. The show contains loud music and flashing lights so it is not recommended for those who are sensitive to either.
Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for non-students. Tickets can be purchased at the door 30 minutes before the show starts or you can buy them online through the marketplace.
