After winning Rookie of the Year and taking the Indiana Fever to the playoffs for the first time since 2016, it’s safe to assume that Caitlin Clark adjusted to the WNBA just fine.
Her first year in the league was met with high expectations that went way beyond her draft status. Her impact on women’s basketball helped bring in more viewers to not just her, but the rest of the league. And she lived up to the hype, averaging 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds while shooting 34.3 percent from three and over 90 percent from the free throw line. It’s not often we see a rookie post these numbers and teams continuously throw double and even triple teams at her to try and slow her down.
While everyone talks about her three point shooting, and rightfully so, the most underrated part of her game is her passing. She’s able to always find an open teammate and set them up for a bucket. She’s also improved defensively, which is something that I think she will work on even more during the offseason.
Clark set so many records during her first year, which is crazy to think about given she was a rookie. Here’s a list of just some of the records she broke.
- Scored 769 points, the most ever by a WNBA rookie
- Scored the most points in a single season in Fever history
- Scored the most points by a point guard in a single season in WNBA history
Just looking at these stats is insane to think about, which is why I think Clark will be even better in her second year and also have a chance to win MVP. Last year, the goal for the Indian Fever was to get to the playoffs, and that is what they did. After a great offseason for the Indian Fever with multiple free agent signings and a better feel for the league, Clark will be even better in her second year, which is going to be fun for everyone involved to watch.
