It is with a heavy heart that I announce that Paige Britt, our current Features editor, is officially closing a chapter as she is graduating from Rowan University, making her a Whit alumna. In just a few short weeks, she will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and will continue to grow and flourish as a journalist.
Originally a RCSJ Roadrunner, Britt transferred to Rowan University after two years at the community college. It’s been history since then.
Through her time at Rowan University, she has written for South Jersey Climate News, Follow South Jersey, South Jersey Magazine, the NJ State House News Service and as most of us know her from, The Whit.
Her accomplishments run much further than writing and interning for a laundry list of publications as a young, student journalist. Just recently, Britt was awarded the Claudia Cuddy Medallion Award and is expected to be honored at the CCCA Showcase and at Commencement.
Britt may have a long list of accomplishments from her time as a Prof, but her academic achievements just skim the surface of the successful and inspiring woman she is. Anyone who knows Britt can attest that she is one of the kindest, sweetest, and most supportive people that has graced this Earth, and I mean that whole heartedly.
While my friendship with Paige started less than a year ago, I can confidently say that a friendship like hers is rare and something I will forever cherish. Through my time as productions editor, and her time as features editor, she has taken me under her wing and has quickly become an inspiration of mine. Writing slumps are common in the field of journalism and it happens to the best of us. I found that when I get in a writing slump, I turn to read Paige’s stories because they always inspire me. It doesn’t matter if it is an opinion piece about women’s safety, or a story about sustainable Christmas shopping, her stories are consistently well-written and nothing short of stimulating.
Her writing and accomplishments aren’t the only inspiring thing about her. Paige Britt is wholeheartedly one of the kindest people I have ever met. She treats every person that steps into the Whit room with the utmost respect and welcomes every student journalist into Bozorth 108 with open arms.
I am beyond lucky to have shared the newsroom with Paige. Her hard work, dedication, cleverness, and downright hilarious personality has made my rookie year at The Whit extremely special and memorable.
Now, to Paige, words can not describe how thankful I am for our friendship. You have been a shining light in the Whit room and it is something that is undeniable. I have no doubt in my mind that you will go on to create waves in the journalism world, just like how you did for our publication. While your graduation is bittersweet, I can’t help but feel an undeniable sense of gratitude that I got to share a newsroom with you. Thank you Paige for being an inspiration, a killer karaoke partner, someone I can always joke with, and most importantly, for being a true friend.
I can speak for the Whit when I say, Bozorth 108 won’t be the same without Paige Britt, but you left a mark on the Whit that will simply never be forgotten.
