It is with a heavy heart that I announce that this latest issue of The Whit is our Editor-In-Chief Madison Miller’s last.
Coming into The Whit this year, I didn’t know what to expect. Other than my sister, a former sports editor, believing that Madi—who had just started her term as Editor In Chief—and I, would be best friends and that we were the same person.
Being the skeptic that I am about my older sister, I didn’t believe her. But boy, was I wrong.
Within two minutes of walking into Bozorth 108, Madi and I were best friends.
In getting to know Madi, you quickly realize how much of an enterprising and driven journalist she is.
In her 11th article with The Whit, she wrote an article about her experience in Greek life, she faced a ton of backlash. Still, she stood strong, and that article has become one of the most significant in both her personal history and Whit’s history overall.
She is willing to take risks and is not afraid to hurt feelings if it means telling the truth to the fullest extent.
It’s genuinely weird sometimes because there are days when Madi and I genuinely share a brain.
Specifically, the day I walked into the Whit room, eager to tell Madi about an important paper for class, I said my topic, and it just happened to be the exact same topic that Madi had done three years earlier.
Madi and I are twins to almost every extent of the word.
She is also one of my biggest role models, and I admire her so much.
Madi has pushed me to do things I literally never thought of prior to meeting her. Like, joining the entrepreneurship school, which has helped me grow my music management skills so much.
On a personal level, she has given me the best advice in the world, whether it comes to friendship drama, guys, or even just the smallest things. She has been able to take some major weights off my shoulders.
Madi is a best friend and a second sister to me. I genuinely don’t know who I would be today without her encouragement, and constant support.
Madi’s leadership has completely changed The Whit for the better. She has created an environment where everyone feels supported, valued, and motivated to be their best, from the freshman staff writer to the senior editors. Her passion is genuinely so infectious, and because of her, so many of us have fallen even more in love with the craft.
As Madi moves on to her next chapter at Florida State University, I have no doubt that she will continue to make waves and touch the lives of just as many people as she did
To my twin, you are going to do the most amazing things in Florida, and just know you will always and forever have a home at The Whit.
It’s going to be super hard for me to see her go, but in the words of Suburban Moon,
“You’ve got to let me go, so maybe then I could grow.”
