Alpha Psi Omega continues its victory streak, having won this year’s annual Homecoming Lip Sync Competition.
The Pfleeger Concert Hall was filled with sororities and frats coming together to perform their rehearsed music numbers on Thursday, Oct. 16th. Multiple Rowan staff members were invited to act as judges as well.
Five teams competed for prizes of Rowan Bucks. First place won 300 rowan bucks, Second place won 200 rowan bucks, and third place won 100 rowan bucks.
“We liked the theme, and we really made it our own. Our organization is predominantly queer, so we represent,” said Grace Raymond, president of Alpha Psi Omega.
The winning piece was choreographed by Sophie Creed and Allie Tedaschi.
Students mixed their own musical mashups, created and applied their own choreography, and put their pieces on stage. Sororities and fraternities teamed up, as multiple competitors joined forces across Greek life.
This event was just one of the many different homecoming events, allowing Rowan students to express their school spirit in a competitive environment.
“I like coming out to these events, getting dressed up in a suit and tie, and I love getting to see all of the creativity out of people. It was a well-organized event,” said Keegan Thompson, the host of the event.
The winners were decided through a mix of team presence, use of homecoming theme, overall creativity, and audience response. Costumes were also employed, including one group of sorority members dressed as frat guys, only to engage in a wardrobe change to the tune of Nelly’s “Hot In Here.”
“It was a good bonding experience, and a great way to represent ASA,” said Devan Walsh, a sophomore and member of Alpha Sigma Alpha.
The event was put on through Rowan After Hours, an offshoot of Rowan Student Center and Campus Activities. They plan various extracurricular activities throughout the year, including homecoming events.
