When it comes to spiritual healing, look no further than Reiki! Reiki is an energy healing technique that promotes relaxation and stress relief. A vast majority of people all over the world use reiki to find themselves and relieve stress.
Rowan University holds monthly reiki workshops for students to relieve their stresses of classes or life in general. The most recent workshop students attended was on Friday, Oct. 6 at the Wellness Center. These workshops are held by Dr. Anna Stadtmueller, a mental health clinician in the Wellness Center and a third-level Reiki expert.
“Reiki is both a way of life and a personal experience– you get to decide what practices foster your oneness with the world and facilitate inner and outer harmony,” said Stadtmueller. “Reiki is both a science and a mystery and focuses on the interconnectedness of all things. It is a biofield practice intended to affect the energy fields that surround and intersect with the human body. Reiki facilitates the rebalancing of the energy system to strengthen the body’s natural ability to heal and self-regulate. Reiki is a practice intended to promote health and well-being and has five elements: precepts, meditations, symbols/mantras, hands-on practice, and reju [attunement].”
Under her direction, students are introduced to the five stages of Reiki and simple meditation for students to help them relax and connect to themselves. Everyone listens to the beautiful and soothing sounds of Reiki bowls, when empty it creates a beautiful chakra tone that helps bring peaceful emotions to everyone.
Students who attended the event were introduced to a chakra meditation which allowed everyone to get in touch with the seven colors of chakra. Each color correlates to another aspect or part of the human body which helps everyone relax. The other meditation students participated in was the self-compassion meditation, where each breath one takes represents a different aspect of positivity. This is for students to bring in love, compassion, and joy and release feelings of anger, fear, and self-doubt just to name a few.
Reiki is used all over the world, and everyone can use it in their everyday lives. Students are greatly encouraged to attend the next workshop on Friday, Nov. 3, or participate in self-compassion Reiki meditations online. There are plenty of opportunities to take part in Reiki and Reiki is for everyone!
“In the Reiki workshop, students can learn and practice precepts, participate in meditations, and learn symbols and mantras. Reiki can have a variety of physical and mental health benefits and the Reiki workshop allows space for relaxation and stillness,” said Stadtmueller.
