Rowan University announced Dr. Kevin Koett as the new associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students over the weekend, according to a Rowan announcer submission.
The announcement first appeared in student’s email inbox on Feb. 2, touting Koett’s “25 years of experience in student affairs,” while working for six institutions of higher education. Koett’s responsibilities will include Residential Learning and University Housing, as well as the Office of Civic Involvement. His office will be located on the second floor of the Chamberlain Student Center.
“We conducted an extensive national search, looking for the right candidate,” Vice President for Student Affairs Rory McElwee said. “He has 14 years of experience serving as dean of students at other institutions so he is going to step right into the Rowan community ready to tackle everything that the job entails.”
Koett served as the associate vice chancellor for student affairs and the dean of students at Western Carolina University since August 2014. Prior to his tenure at Western Carolina, Koett served as the assistant vice president and dean of students at Morehead State University from May 2005 to August 2014.
Koett received his Bachelor of the Arts in Social Studies education from Augustana College and a Master of the Sciences in Higher Education from Syracuse University, according to his LinkedIn profile.
“We had student participation in the search through participating in open forums. We really value the input from the students who participated in the process, as well,” McElwee said. “He’s very excited to be coming to Rowan and to be meeting our students.”
Koett will assume his new position on Monday, Feb. 10 while interim Dean of Students Dr. Drew Tinnin will return to his previous role as associate vice president for student life.
