Rowan competed in three different meets over the weekend. On Thursday, the javelin throwers participated in the Virginia Challenge, and then on Friday and Saturday, the team participated in the Paul Donohue Invitational at Widener University, and the North Carolina A&T Aggie Invitational in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Sophomore Nyla Jones recorded two school records, and two top five Division III times in the hurdles. She notched a time of 13.92 in the 100-meter hurdle, and a time of 1:00.26 in the 400-meter hurdle.
Jones’ time in the 400-meter hurdle broke her own time of 1:00.42, which was set last season at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships in Ewing, New Jersey.
“I’ve been staying consistent,” Jones said. “Not skipping days, taking recovery seriously, and doing everything I’m taught at practice.”
Jones was joined by Paige Franklin, Lisa O’Sullivan, and Amari Pinkett in the 4×400 relay, giving them a time of 3:56.33, a top NJAC time.
More personal records were set at all three locations, with Pinkett and Franklin separately getting new record times in 400 meters.
Down in Virginia, juniors Ava Reardon and Diamond Eaddy both set new PR’s in the javelin throw, and sophomore Jezena Aponte claimed a PR in the 1500 meters at Widener with a time of 4:39.27.
“I would definitely say being consistent at practice has really helped”, head coach Shedrick Elliott III said. “I think also feeding off of one another has also helped, but the weather definitely helps as well, because I think moods change when it’s warmer outside, they are a little bit more uplifted.”
This upcoming weekend, the Profs will participate in another three meets on Friday and Saturday. They will be at the Penn Relays at the legendary Franklin Field in Philadelphia, the Rick McCorkle Invitational up at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), and the Blue Jay Tune Up at Elizabethtown College.
“We’re taking it one day at a time,” Elliott III said. “Obviously, you know, we got conferences around the corner next weekend, so there’s a good group that’s taken off this week, which I think will be a good thing, so they can kind of mentally refresh, and then just be ready for conferences.”
