On Saturday, Oct. 29, the Rowan field hockey team was victorious with a 9-1 win against Ramapo College on their Senior Day.
The Profs ended their regular season with a 17-1 record and a perfect 6-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) record.
Before the game, the seniors celebrated their accomplishments in their Senior Day ceremony. After the ceremony concluded, it was game on and no looking back.
It was all Profs from the start with Julia Patrone and Morgan Mulvey scoring the first two goals of the day. It would be the first of three goals scored by Mulvey, capping off her last regular season with a hat trick.
“It was awesome for me,” Mulvey said. “There were so many things to celebrate from our careers, all these seniors, the season in general. It was our last regular season game and there’s no other way I could not have imagined the day.”
Graduate student Captain Kristiina Castagnola continued the success of upperclassmen with a hat trick and two assists of her own. She broke the record for most points scored in Profs history with 156 points, a record previously held by Danielle Miranda with 148 points in 2007.
“I mean today was awesome with all my teammates being around,” Castagnola said. “Obviously hitting that milestone is such an honor. It’s not just me. It’s the people around me, everyone who has been here before me, and all my coaches, friends, family and all the people I care about in my corner. Honestly, I could not do this without them.”
Goalie Abby Hainsworth only allowed one goal in the victory over Rampo, and she was pumped up from the victory and Senior Day celebration.
“It was an amazing feeling,” Hainsworth said. “We showed up today wanting to perform and celebrate with my other seniors. To be able to go out with a 9-1 win is a great feeling.”
It was an emotional Senior Day for this tight group of senior Profs. Head Coach Michelle Andre acknowledges that they have gotten the team through rough times and have been the leaders of the team for years.
“It was great,” Coach Andre said. “The seniors mean so much. They are the emotional backbone of this program for so many years. They got us through some rough times in Covid and other things that have happened along the way. They are just amazing.”
