After an amazing slate of close games in the NFL this past week, “Shop or Drop” is back, giving you expert advice on who to pick up and drop every week in your fantasy football league.
Waiver Wire additions:
Jameis Winston – QB – Cleveland Browns – 1% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
With Deshaun Watson rupturing his Achilles tendon in the Week 7 loss to Cincinnati, Jameis Winston is set to take over the starting QB role in Cleveland. The Browns have been miserable as of late. However, Cleveland’s offense, featuring playmakers like Jerry Jeudy, David Njoku, and Nick Chubb, will look to spark some momentum.
Alexander Mattison – RB – Las Vegas Raiders – 54% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Even with the return of Zamir White, Alexander Mattison kept his spot as the lead back in Las Vegas. In the loss to Los Angeles, the former Viking rushed for 92 yards on 23 attempts. He also added three catches for 31 receiving yards on the day. If Mattison can continue to produce like this in a game where they only scored 15 points, he can provide a much-needed spark for the offense moving forward.
Jaylen Warren – RB – Pittsburgh Steelers – 41% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Although Najee Harris is the bell cow in this revamped Pittsburgh offense, Jaylen Warren is bound to see some more action himself. On 12 attempts, the pass catching back rushed for 44 yards, while also adding two receptions for 15 yards. After dropping 37 points on an impressive New York defense this past Sunday night, it’s clear that Pittsburgh’s offense can involve both Harris and Warren effectively.
Rashod Bateman – WR – Baltimore Ravens – 18% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
It surprised me to see that Rashod Bateman was only rostered in 18% of leagues after producing more than 10 fantasy points in three straight weeks. Bateman has reeled in four passes in each of his last three games. In the victory over Tampa Bay, the young receiver totaled 121 receiving yards, made two catches over 40 yards, and scored a touchdown. Baltimore’s offense is firing on all cylinders, and with Bateman emerging as a key deep threat, he could become an even more consistent fantasy option moving forward.
Ricky Pearsall – WR – San Fransico 49ers – 14% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Less than two months after taking a bullet to the chest, Ricky Pearsall made his NFL debut. The rookie was quiet, catching only three of five targets for 21 yards. Unfortunately for San Francisco, star WR Brandon Aiyuk went down with a torn ACL and MCL. With Aiyuk sidelined for the season, Pearsall is likely to see increased opportunities in the offense as he steps into a more prominent role.
Hunter Henry – TE – New England Patriots – 31% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
In the 32-16 loss to Jacksonville across the pond, Hunter Henry had himself a productive day. The veteran tight end caught eight of nine targets for 92 yards with Drake Maye under center. Henry had a solid Week 6 as well, scoring a touchdown along with 41 receiving yards. He may not be the most reliable, but Henry is sure to have explosive performances from time to time.
Players to Drop:
Christian Watson – WR – Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay receiving room has been driving me crazy. Christian Watson, who was thought to be the WR1, saw fewer targets than five players this past Sunday. This includes Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and Jayden Reed. Watson is a risky flex start at best at the moment.
DeAndre Hopkins – WR – Tennessee Titans
It is truly upsetting to see a Hall of Fame caliber receiver like DeAndre Hopkins waste the rest of his career in Tennessee. The veteran receiver provides little to no fantasy value, scoring -.20 points in the 34-10 loss. Of Mason Rudolph’s 40 attempted passes, only one of them went in Hopkins’ direction.
Devin Singletary – RB – New York Giants
After experiencing a career resurgence last year in Houston, the past few weeks in New York have been difficult for Singletary. Returning from injury, he split carries with rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. Tracy received nine touches compared to Singletary’s six in the blowout loss to Philadelphia.
If you see some of these guys on your waiver wire, try and scoop them up. Although some players may not have a spot on your starting roster at the moment, injuries are bound to happen. When everyone else in your league is scrambling around looking for replacements, you will remember that you can read “Shop or Drop,” and reinforcements can be sitting on your bench.
