Fashion in college isn’t just what you wear, it can be a creative way for students to express themselves. Whether it’s personalities or cultural influences, to navigating social aspects and the practical aspects, it applies to college life. From the graphic tees with bold prints to accessorizing, each piece of clothing choice can display identity, background, or even values. Junior Kai Willis is no stranger to this, looking for an everyday, practical look, whether running errands or getting to class.
“Generally, I tend to go with a hoodie for that comfortable feel and Vans as my go-to outfit for my classes. Sneakers are easy to walk in when heading to class,” said Willis.
While Celebre Magazine further emphasizes the impact of campus culture for different universities and how it plays a significant role in finding one’s identity. As fashion is all around us, it serves as a way of self-expression for students and can shape trends. Notably, the college atmosphere influences students’ fashion choices, whether it’s a warm March day with a tank top or a snowy day wearing sweats in February, it allows students further creativity and individuality. Freshman Lucy Chabrak shares her perspective on how she is still stylish during weather changes.
“I’d say that once it gets colder, long pants and cozy sweaters are absolutely a necessity. However, if I’m going out, I definitely want a nice lace top and a black mini skirt to pair with the top. But then, when it’s warmer out, cute shorts and an athletic outfit,” said Chabrak.
College fashion balances sustainability and comfort, as it is important to many students when juggling academics and social lives. Senior Austin Cuellar shares the need for casual everyday wear.
“A casual outfit for me is definitely a signature look. Which would be like sweats or jeans and just a jacket, honestly. But if I’m going out, I definitely want to have a more put-together look,” said Cuellar.
While looking ahead to 2025, college fashion trends highlight some versatility, nostalgia, and practicality. Y2k aesthetics remain strong, with bright colors, and so does loungewear and athleisure for students. Blending sporty comfort like sweatsuits, pairing with sneakers or leggings with a puffer jacket. Freshman Isabella Adams discusses her take on Athleisure, and how it is her everyday wear, while also giving insight on what everyday look she hopes to achieve in the future.
“While my everyday look is typically a cute crop top and some sweatpants, I hope to have a better fashion sense in the near future. A mini skirt, definitely, and a leather jacket paired with a nice crop top,” said Adams.
It comes as no surprise that students seek the feel for practicality, confidence, and comfort, all while still appearing put together. College fashion serves as a crucial way to blend Prof’s identity, background, social belonging, and comfort level. Whether it’s a night out or heading to class, students continue to add to their style, balancing both academics and their social lives, allowing them to express who they are through the outlet of fashion.
