Boom boom clap.
The crowd stomped their feet with a roaring rumble against Stockton’s bleacher floors on Thursday night as the fifth set started.
After losing the first two sets and winning the second two, Rowan’s volleyball team ran away with the fifth set and a tally in their win column.
“I never count us out. We’re still growing and figuring things out and learning how to play together so I never really do count us out,” said Head Coach Deana Jespersen.
Although Stockton won the first set, Rowan had 14 kills and never allowed the point gap to exceed more than four points.
The Profs trailed the Ospreys the entire second set and lost 25-16.
Towards the beginning of the third set, Rowan inched ahead by one point and Stockton tried to keep up, only trailing by a point or two during the majority of the set. Natalie Ogden saved the Profs with two kills to win the set 26-24, which kept them alive during this game.
The fourth set had a tie score 16 times before Rowan won 29-27. The crowd stood up and cheered throughout the set while teammates on the sideline yelled out to encourage the players on the court.
As the fifth set began, a different team was on the court. Rowan dominated the last set and ultimately won the match against Stockton 3-2.
“When we went into that fifth set, I was pretty happy that we came out like that. Like that was awesome,” said Jespersen.
Ogden had 15 kills, 15 digs, and two aces. Brooke Adams helped with 52 assists. Simone Sparano had 22 digs while Jackie Camponelli had 17. Captain Cassidy Abdalla contributed with 12 kills.
“We say a lot [that] we want to be 1% better everyday,” said Abdalla. “And just the fact that it doesn’t matter the score. It doesn’t matter how many sets the other team has already won. Each set is a new chance to prove ourselves and play how we want to play.”
The Profs are now 11-3 and on a five-game win streak after picking up two more wins at the Cabrini Tournament this weekend. They now return home to face Neumann on Tuesday night.
