The Saxbys in the new Chamberlain Student Center expansion is currently scheduled to open in the Fall 2025 semester.
There’s no exact date for the opening just yet, but the Saxbys team is aiming for their Student Center location to open at the start of next school year. The Saxbys Student Center location was previously announced last April, and delays in the construction of the expansion also caused problems for the cafe.
The original Saxbys on Rowan University’s Glassboro campus first opened in Sept. 2021 and has since become a popular stop for students, especially those who spend a lot of time in Business Hall. The main goal was to bring awareness to their experiential learning platform (E.L.P.) through a 100% student-run cafe, in this case, a team of Rowan students as well as a student CEO. The student CEO of the cafe receives credit and payment to oversee the entire day-to-day operations.
“I like the idea of a new location a lot,“ said Aydin Coutts, a junior supply chain and logistics major at Rowan who also currently works at the Saxbys in Business Hall. “The expansion seems really nice. Saxbys seems to be very popular, so having a second location in the middle of campus seems like it would work very well.”
Regular customers of Saxbys can expect virtually nothing different between the Business Hall and Student Center locations. The menus for each location will be the exact same. However, the Student Center Saxbys will have hours on the weekends once they open up, whereas the Business Hall location will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays. The exact hours for the Student Center Saxbys are still unknown but will be determined once the new location opens.
With a new Saxbys location also comes a new team, as those who work at the Saxbys in Business Hall will stay working there. The Saxbys in the Student Center will have a completely new student team and a different student CEO in sophomore Ellie Grant, who has been helping with the Business Hall location. She has also been preparing and training students who have already been hired for the Student Center location with hopes of a smooth opening when the time comes.
“I’ve been at the Business Hall location for four years, and I’ve noticed that a lot of our guests are business majors,“ Jeana Alesiani, the current student vice president of campus marketing for Rowan University’s Saxbys, said. “Not a lot of people come over from other majors because we’re so far away. I think that business will probably stay the same, and we’ll have a lot of new guests at the Student Center.”
